The Basketball Development Manager for Tayside & Fife is Chris Dodds, who previously held the post of Basketball Development Officer for SportTayside until January 2006. Chris moved to a career in sports development having held staff trainer, business analyst and project manager positions with Scottish Equitable plc in Edinburgh. He also has over 17 years volunteer experience working with Lothian Basketball Association and basketballscotland.
A former National League player with Boroughmuir in Edinburgh and a qualified coach, table official and referee, Chris is also a qualified tutor for basketballscotland coach, table official and referee courses. He is also a FIBA International Referee and currently one of Britain’s top officials, refereeing regularly in the BBL and FIBA Europe competitions. Chris has also officiated at the World University Games in Turkey in 2005 and the XVIII Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in 2006.
Role of Basketball Development Manager
The Basketball Development Manager will work with key partners (Local Authority sports development teams, Active Schools, facility programme co-ordinators, key volunteers, basketballtayside and basketballscotland) within Tayside & Fife and is responsible for:
• Development Plans - Leading the planning, monitoring and evaluation of a three year Basketball Development Plan and subsequent annual action plans at a local and regional level
• Pathways – ensuring and helping to develop pathways that allow grass roots participation and recreational basketball through to talent identification of potential National Team players
• Long Term Player Development (LTPD) – to ensure effective and progressive pathways for players with potential are established and maintained from grass roots to local to partnership area level. This includes development squads and Partnership Player Improvement Programmes
• Club Development - working with, supporting and assisting clubs within the partnership area to develop their infrastructure, improve the quality of the club and increase their capacity/membership
• Education and Training – to identify education and development needs and manage a comprehensive Education and Training programme for coaches, leaders, teachers, officials and volunteers
• Facilities – to influence and advise on basketball facility provision and access requirements for basketball in the partnership area – to raise the profile of the sport of basketball and its image
• National Programmes – to assist and support basketballscotland with the promotion and delivery of any national basketball programmes or initiatives
