Celebrating Olympic Success with Tim Baillie

On Wednesday 5th December, at the Institute of Sport & Exercise, University of Dundee, sports coaches celebrated the success of Team GB and London 2012 with, Time Baillie, Olympic Champion and Scottish Gold Medallist in Canoe Slalom.

Tim, the fastest man in a boat, provided an insight into his journey to Olympic glory! Craig Fail and Bob Easson from the Scottish Institute of Sport provided an insight into the people they have worked with and their preparation for the Games.

The coaches were given a clear grasp of Tim's journey to glory at London 2012. Additionally he described how coaching and coaches assisted in his journey as an athlete and contributed to his achievements throughout his career. A Question & Answer session was provided for the audience and a photographic opportunity were available with Tim and Gold Medal.

Windy and Wild for Tayside & Fife Festival

Primary schools & junior clubs from across Angus, Dundee & Perth & Kinross came together in very windy conditions for the Tayside and Fife Primary Hockey Festival on the 18th May.

Success at the Dundee Sports Awards for Menzieshill Whitehall Amateur Swimming and Water Polo Club

The 2010 Dundee Sports Awards took place in February and was a very successful night for Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming and Water Polo Club. The Club, who won Dundee Club of the Year in 2009, had 3 shortlisted candidates and 2 winners.

Angus Council Sports Awards winners

The sporting stars of Angus were in the spotlight for the 15th annual Angus Sports Awards ceremony last night. The Angus Sports Awards 2010 ceremony took place at the Reid Hall, Forfar and again highlighted the sporting talent and achievement that exists in Angus.

Regional Secondary In-service Day

The 25th March will see a full day in-service opportunity for Secondary School teachers in Tayside & Fife. Looking at techniques and practices for teaching basic hockey skills; teaching game play and tactics; and Stronger Game principles, this in-service will be suitable for any teacher looking to improve their confidence or knowledge of teaching hockey across Secondary school.

Places are £20 per candidate and the booking form is available here.

Pitreavie Race to Clubmark Award

Pitreavie AAC are celebrating completion of scottishathletics Clubmark, becoming the fifth club in Scotland to gain accreditation. The Club have been working hard over the latter part of 2008 and early 2009 and their efforts have paid off.

Presenting the award to Pitreavie AAC, scottishathletics Education and Development Manager said, �Pitreavie fully deserve this award as they have clearly proven that they are a club with vision, ambition and a strong structure. It is clear that the cub committee have fully committed to being one of the best managed clubs in Scotland and by achieving Clubmark have demonstrated high standards of practice in all areas of their operations.�

Pitreavie Club Chair, Shelagh Young added, �Pitreavie wants the best for all its athletes and supporters and achieving the clubmark standards shows we offer that . Our best athletes are the ones who work hard in training and turn out repeatedly to compete for the club. They set high standards and deserve the best we can offer."

Pitreavie AAC work in close partnership with scottishathletics, the Fife Local Athletics Partnership and SportTayside & Fife Athletics Development Manager Alasdair Donaldson. At the presentation of the Award last Friday at their club awards night Alasdair presented the club with a cheque for �300 in recognition of their achievement of this award stating �This financial reward is recognition of the hard work the volunteers on Pitreavie�s committee have put into achieving this award for the club; ensuring that it is well positioned to develop its athletes to the best of the club�s ability. Hopefully this award can help Pitreavie AAC to achieve all the aims of their club development plan over the next four years.��

Athletics Inaugural Athletes of the Year Announced

The first winners of the Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross Athlete of the Year awards have been announced. The three winners each received a Trophy to keep for one year and a grant for £100.
