Laszlo Nemeth Coaching Clinic

One of the highlights of the last quarter was a coaching clinic hosted on the last weekend in February in Dundee. Ex England Men's National Team Head Coach and great friend of Tayside & Fife basketball Dr Laszlo Nemeth gave a lecture on “Maximising Your Training Sessions” on Friday 27th February at Abertay University.

Then on Saturday 28th February he delivered a five hour coaching clinic at the new sports hall at St Andrew’s Primary School in Dundee with key topics of Developing the Fast Break, Offensive and Defensive Rebounding, Building a Man to Man Offence and Physical Preparation of players. Over 40 players and coaches took part in this clinic, and the feedback received confirmed the hunger for more coaching knowledge and seminars such as this.

Laszlo was also kind enough to deliver a player improvement session to the players in the Under 14 Development League (CVDL), meaning a total of 40 coaches and over 110 youth players benefited from his experience on the Tayside & Fife coaching development weekend.

Coach Education and Development

Coach Education and Training remains a strong focus of delivery and achievement within Tayside & Fife for basketball. Another UKCC Level 1 Coach Award was successfully delivered at the Saltire LC, Angus on 25th January and 1st March 2009 bringing the total to 33 new level 1 coaches for the full plan year.

Primary School teacher CPD workshops were hosted in Dundee and Dunfermline during February in partnership with the local Active Schools Co-ordinators, meaning another 30 Primary School teachers gained skills and experience in coaching basketball fundamentals and fun games to P4-P7 children.

Continuing our commitment to developing and assisting teachers improve their basketball coaching skills, a very successful secondary school CPD session for "Higher and Intermediate 2" basketball was attended by 29 PE teachers from various secondary schools across the region at Cowdenbeath LC in Fife. The workshop was designed and delivered by John Grant, principle teacher of PE at Arbroath High School and Head Coach of Arbroath Musketeers basketball club.
