Girls & Women's Football in Tayside

New Girls/ Womens’ Football Development Officer Appointed

October 2008 saw the appointment of the new Girls’ and Women’s Football Development Officer for Tayside and Fife. Samantha Milne has been involved in Girls’ and Women’s football as a player, league administrator and in club development roles. She graduated from University of Abertay with an Honours degree in Sports Development in 2007 and is looking forward to working with girls’ and women’s football in the East Region

Sam stated “I am delighted to have the opportunity to help develop girls’ and women’s football in the East Region. Girls’ football is the fastest growing participation sport in the world and this is reflected in the East Region. Many girls are playing football in schools and many new girls clubs are constantly being formed. There are currently sixteen girls from the region playing in youth International teams and this season saw the SWF/ SFA Integration. Season 08/ 09 also saw the move to summer football for all girls’ youth teams across the nation. The regionalisation of the girls youth leagues allowed this summer season to go ahead and once again the East has proved to be strong by having a league for U13, U15 and U17. U11 football has also been regionalised with many fixtures being played over the short season.
For me, there are exciting times ahead for girls’ and women’s football across Tayside and Fife of which I am overjoyed to be part of.”

Role of the Girls & Women’s Football Development Officer

The women's football development officer will lead the development of girls & women’s football in Tayside with a key focus on Clubs, Coaches, Volunteers, School Programmes and Local and Regional Player Improvement Programmes. A strategic plan for Football as a whole has been produced by the SFA East Region Manager and will lead the Development Officer implementation across the girls programme through working closely with SFA and local stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure of the sport develops.
