Wednesday the 12th saw the Tayside & Fife Primary Festival take place in sunny (if a little chilly) conditions at DISC, Dundee. Twelve teams from across the region competed in two pools followed by play-offs, with some tight competition at all stages. There was a mix of experience on display, but very few games were entirely one-sided, showing the development of hockey at this age-group.
The final was contested by Claypotts Castle Primary (Dundee) and Blairgowrie Juniors (P&K), with Claypotts Castle running out eventual 3-0 winners to take the trophy. Viewlands Cluster (P&K) & Craigclowan (P&K) fought a close battle to decide 3rd place, with Viewlands securing the only goal of the game. Thanks to Becky Ward (Dundee Wanderers, Scotland & GB Youth) for being on hand to congratulate the players and award the prizes.
Congratulations to all who qualified from local festivals to compete at this regional event. The six top placed teams move on to compete at the National Festival in Edinburgh on 27th May. Well done also to MVP for the festival, Jonathon Owens of Claypotts Castle Primary.
Congratulations must also go to the youth umpires who officiated at the event. The 9 umpires have now achieved their Youth Umpire Award and some will also be making the trip to Edinburgh to participate in the National Festival.
